Crumble

I won't break.
Like metal I was malleable, I would bend but never snap, I never broke.
I crumbled.
Like a paper airplane's inevitable crash into the ground I waited for the day when the interior rot would overwhelm me.
Like a paper chain's fragility my fertility for life fell with my optimism, my cynicism consumed my entire being and I crumbled.
Piece by piece I pulled apart, and my pursuit of reality and sanity ended in nothing but a broken wing.
I had flown too close to the sun, the heat the brilliance, the beauty destroyed me from the inside and I burned, back to the ground, my feathers alight as my flight went tumbling into the sea.
I crumbled.
Like a fool, I never broke. I never gave myself the chance.

Mere Grams My brother told me that the best painting he ever did was when he was high on acid.
I don't think he knows that
I know that
the only time he feels free he feels very much alone and the only home he's ever known was carefully constructed from painstakingly picked pebbles from the sand-spit of his poor decisions.

The Cobbles of Carthage I want to walk the streets of Carthage with you
The cobbles, the carnage under our feet
It was broken long ago, but that doesn't matter

I want to climb the slopes of Calvary,
Feel the dirt beneath our toes and
The smell of beauty in the air

From alleys of deserted towns

Paper Thin It's too paper thin to touch
too ephemeral to feel
to quick to catch
far too precious to steal

sometimes its almost as though it isn't there at all.

But then you hear that whisper
the wind drops it into your ear as it wisps by
and you know you have to believe it
you know you have to try

It's like hearing a single drop of rain
fall into the sea
and knowing you are the person
you were always meant to be

In a world full of static noise
meaningless touch and broken toys
sometimes it's almost as though it isn't there at all
But you just have to trust

Mystery

The more I learn about the universe, the more it becomes impossible for me to understand a belief in God. The cosmos is so amazing, from the tiniest quark to the biggest quasar, and I just can't comprehend how it could have come about from one thought, in one moment, by one thing. Of course, there are things that we don't understand yet about how it did come to be the way it is. But I don't believe that every question needs to have an answer. I don't believe that just because we don't have all the facts or all the knowledge, we need to put a myth in its place. There's is nothing wrong with a mystery.
